Explain Home Care VS Nursing Home Care
A no-brainer home care is less expensive, and you remain in control of your own Destiny. Nursing Homes are expensive. Nursing homes have a limited staff & the quality of care suffers.
Are nursing homes good for people?
In most situations, No. The elderly feel like they are being left out. Once important, they feel no value, often leading to depression. The shortage of providers makes it difficult to care for so many residents.
How do I find reliable help?
Don’t limit your search. Call several companies and/or providers. Then, try to narrow your list to your favorites. Call them back a second or even third time. Interview the company and provider, asking questions that require more than yes or no answers. Conduct a working interview, and don’t be afraid to let the provider or company know you want the person they would hire for their own parents.
How do I get my parents to agree to help?
Be nice but firm. Remind them that they can change providers and/or companies if they are unhappy. We can’t stay with or take care of you. But we can make sure you get the very best providers.
What qualities do I look for in a provider?
Providers who are ready, willing, and able. They are ready when they arrive prior to the start of care. They are willing when looking for jobs to help make your day brighter. They are able to do this when they possess strong communication skills, compassion, and book smart.
How do we care for our family when we live so far away?
Have the providers give daily reports via email, text, or phone calls. Set up a log book for providers to record daily updates. Make sure providers write in the log daily. Let the Company & or Providers know you want the provider you would use for your own Mom or Dad.
How can I afford to keep one-on-one care?
Negotiate, let the provider and the company know you are not an endless well. Pay a fair price, not an amount over and above what you can afford.
What do seniors need most?
Seniors need to feel important. They feel left out. Having other seniors around and as much family around them as possible will help. Leaving pictures will comfort you with regular phone calls. Be kind, compassionate, and patient.
How do you check providers?
Insist on a criminal background check with as many job references as possible. Make sure references are not related or are not friends of the provider.
